WHY DO I NEED A RETIREMENTS AND BENEFITS COUNSELOR?
- The Retirement Application is long
- The options can be difficult to choose between
- The timing of the application process is critical
To further complicate matters, all forms must be submitted to your Agency error-free with no mark-outs, strike-overs, white-outs, or erasures on any of the forms. If your forms are not completed in their entirety, accurately and error free, the forms will be returned to you with the requirement that you complete and re-submit a corrected form. In most cases every time a form is returned to you for correction, expect to lose up to 4 to 6 weeks processing time. A loss of processing time affects the length of time it takes to receive your first retirement deposit.
With my training, working knowledge and expertise, your application package will be completed error-free. I will type your retirement application, establish direct deposit, complete tax forms and the life insurance election form. I will provide the originals to you for your signature and submission to your HR Department. I will also provide a copy of the package for your records. Your information will not be retained on my computer and will be deleted immediately.
The timing of your retirement preparation and application submission will affect your annuity, continuation of benefits, access to Thrift Savings and even your final pay check from your Agency. If you want some pre-retirement scheduling advice, please feel free to Contact Me.
I counsel employees on selecting a date of retirement. There are certain dates and times of the year which are more financially advantageous for retirement. I ensure that people do not make a financially poor decision when selecting a date for retirement.
The amount of benefit you are entitled to is based on your sick leave, your annual leave and your earnings up until your retirement date. I analyze these factors and advise how they factor into the retirement process.
I also review your life insurance and provide costs for all options available at retirement. Often, I find employees enrolled in Option C family life insurance coverage to find they have not had an eligible child or a spouse for several years. I work with the employee to cancel this unnecessary insurance coverage and request a refund of monies back to the date of last eligible family member.
I provide information on the value and monetary importance of making a military deposit.
I counsel employees on the cost of health insurance and Medicare Part B and how the two work together. As a courtesy I complete Medicare Form CMS-L564 for verification of employee-based health insurance. This is submitted with the retirement application, packaged for HR use in verifying coverage to avoid a late enrollment penalty for those retiring at age 65 or later.
The cost for my complete service package is …. If you are not yet ready to retire, but you would like some guidance on planning to make sure you are on track toward your retirement, i can provide consultations at an hourly rate.
